PORT WORKS.
Sub-head 56.-Improvements and extension to Hung Hom Ferry Pier, $500,--The increased numbers of Ferry boats of larger size calling at this pier necessitated an extension by 40 feet. A vote was taken early this year and the sum now inserted provides retention money. 57.-Refuse Boat Pier & Live Stock Landing at Mataukok Road, $30,000.— The site is a central point for handling refuse from the Eastern area of the Peninsula from which it will be conveyed to Kun Tong. In conjunction with this work the opportunity has been taken of building a Live Stock Landing which is badly needed for the Mataukok Slaughter House.

58.-Rubble Mound and Wall between K.M.L. 97 and Sung Wong Toi Road. $20,000. To permit the construction of a rubble mound and sea wall in accordance with the approved town planning scheme and to retain the refuse which has been deposited during the past year.
59.-Dredging, $150,000.-This represents the balance of expenditure on Government's Account in dredging in the vicinity of Kowloon Point, exclusive of contributions by the Admiralty and the Hong Kong and Kowloon Wharf & Godown Co. The Contract for the work is being carried out by the Netherlands Harbour Works Co. and the dredgings are being deposited behind the rubble mound at Kun Tong. 60.-Construction of yard for Storage of Sand at Hung Hom, $15,000- It has been found impossible to properly control by permit the supply of sand from the various sand beaches in the Colony and it is to remedy this that Government now proposes to erect depots for the supply of sand to the Public.
ELECTRICAL
61.-Tubular Heating System for Operating Theatre, Kowloon Hospital,
$1,000. This provision is made to replace the existing heaters with tubular heaters and thus remove the risk of explosion by contact with ether fumes.
62.-Telephone Cable between Hung Hom Wireless Station and Kowloon City Police Station, $15,000. This cable is required in connection with the W/T Services for the Civil Aerodrome. In addition it will relieve the congestion on the Nathan Road-Prince Edward Road route where no spare lines are now available.
PUBLIC HEALTH & BUILDING ORDINANCE.
63.-Compensation & Resumptions, $5,000.-For expenditure in the acquisition of buildings and land necessitated by Town Planning Improvement.

64.-Roads, $50,000-To meet expenditure for surfacing, kerbing and
channelling roads made necessary by new development.
Sub-head 65.-Drainage (a) Training Nullahs, $10,000.-To provide for the training of stream courses in and adjoining areas under develop- ment.

for sewers and storm water drains in areas development.

67.-Miscellaneous, $3,000. This vote is available for all Departments and provides funds for small works which arise during the year but are considered too small for a separate vote.
68.-Water Works-Miscellaneous, $3,000.--Provides for small extensions to subsidiary water mains and other miscellaneous minor works. 69.-Port Works, $500.-Expenditure necessary in connection with pre liminary investigations for proposed harbour works, foreshore dumping etc.
MISCELLANEOUS.
70.-Kowloon Tsai Development, $30,000.-To continue the site preparation
in connection with this Garden City Development.
71.-Levelling site of new Polo Ground and stream diversion, $5,000.-To divert a stream course and level a playing ground area for use of the Polo Club. The Royal Naval Authorities are contributing $40,000 towards the total cost. On completion of the reprovisioning the Cause- way Bay Area will be released as a Royal Naval Recreation Ground. The sum given in the estimates is to complete the work.
72.--Kowloon Walled City-New Village Type Houses and site formation, $30,000.-To reprovision the villagers of Kowloon Walled City in a new area to the North-East of Chuk Un. This has been rendered necessary owing to the insanitary condition of the Old City. 73.-Exhumation of Chinese Cemeteries, $1,000.-To provide for the re-
moval of Chinese graves which may obstruct development. 74.-Chinese Cemeteries Laying out new areas, $2,000.-To provide new
burial areas in existing cemeteries.
WATER WORKS.
75.-Back Lane Service Pipes, $7.000.-To provide for the extension of subsidiary service pipes in back lanes in newly developed properties to obviate the excessive cutting of roads which would be necessary for direct connection to principal mains. These subsidiary mains are eventually paid for by house owners when connections are requested. 76.-Distribution Mains, $5,000.-To provide for water mains in newly
developed areas.
PORT WORKS.
77.-Formation of Dumping Ground at Kun Tong, $10,000. For a rubble mound to retain the silt removed by proposed dredging in the harbour and to provide a controlled dumping area for City refuse. The area ultimately reclaimed will be available for industrial development.
78.-Refuse Dump at Kun Tong, $20,000. This provides for handling and covering over with soil a large portion of the Colony's refuse for a number of years on a larger scale than at Sung Wong Toi where it has proved successful.
